Next Sunday, December 25, is the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, which entails the enjoyment of a holiday regulated in the region as follows:
Guatemala: It represents a mandatory paid day off, which is applicable from 12 noon on December 24 and a full day on December 25. If an employee works from 12:00 noon on December 24 or 25, payment must be made with a surcharge of double the ordinary salary, as stipulated in the Labor Code, articles 127, 128, and 129.
Honduras: As a holiday under article 339 of the Labor Code, an employee who works the day must be paid double.
El Salvador: As a mandatory paid holiday under 190 of the Labor Code, an employee who works the day earns remuneration consisting of the ordinary salary plus a surcharge of one hundred percent.
Nicaragua: As a holiday in accordance with article 66 of the Labor Code, an employee who works on this day must be paid double.
Costa Rica: It is considered a holiday in accordance with Article 148 of the Labor Code. The employee who works on this day must receive an additional payment.
Throughout the region: December 25 is a mandatory payment day. The employer is obliged to pay it in a simple manner, even if the employee does not work. This rule applies to a weekly, biweekly, or monthly salary schedule.
