On Monday, April 11, Costa Rica will celebrate 166 years since the hero Juan Santamarìa burned the so-called Mesón de Guerra rallying the country to defeat the filibuster forces at the Battle of Rivas, a fete of such importance that the day is celebrated as a mandatory payment holiday.
Any company that uses a weekly payment method is obligated to pay April 11 as single payment, even if an employee does not work the holiday.
A company that uses a fortnightly or monthly payment method must include payment for the day in the ordinary salary even if an employee does not work the holiday. In any case, a company whose employees work on April 11 must pay a double salary for the day. The foregoing is as stipulated in Article 148 of the Labor Code
