BLP advised the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, on an investment of up to USD 20 million in Grupo Farmanova Intermed (GFI), a regional leader in marketing, sales, distribution, and logistics. This investment aims to expand access to high-quality, effective, safe medicines in Central America and the Caribbean.
The IFC financing, structured as a loan with an option to convert into a minority equity stake, will enable GFI to consolidate its operations into a modern logistics and administrative center (shared services center). This center will optimize interoperability among the group’s companies, fostering synergies and enhancing their importation, storage, and distribution capabilities at national and regional levels.
As part of the partnership, IFC will support GFI in adopting the highest standards in technology, environmental management, health, and safety.
BLP provided advice on the due diligence of the group’s operations in Costa Rica and on structuring the package of guarantees to secure this financing.
The transaction was led by partners Pablo Umaña and Julio Castellanos, with the support of Paola Fernandez.
