On Monday, May 23, 2022, bill No. 22 364, which proposes the reform to the General Customs Law, Law No. 7557, was approved in a second debate in the Legislative Assembly.

This reform strengthens customs control and the fight against contraband, facilitates trade, and improves revenue collection.

Such modification to national customs regulations establishes new obligations for participants in the logistics chain, creates new customs legal entities, and changes already regulated issues such as the justification of surpluses and shortages, the recourse phase, and the penalty regime.

Upon publication in the official journal La Gaceta, the reform will enter into force, making it vital to understand the changes introduced to avoid non-compliance and damages and take advantage of the eventual benefits for customs operations.
