The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (“La Caja”) has recently sent a message to all employers informing of modifications to the composition percentages of the Labor Capitalization Fund (FCL)) and the Obligatory Pension Scheme (ROP), based on the Law to Safeguard the Right of Workers to Withdraw Supplementary Pension Resources, law number 9906, which has changed the Worker Protection Law.
These modifications do not increase the percentage of Social Security contributions; rather they seek to increase the contribution made to the ROP without an increase in the current contributions of workers or employers; therefore, these changes only affect how the current contribution percentages are distributed.
Thus, in the next billing period (October 2020), the FCL contribution percentage will decrease from 3% to 1.5%, and the ROP contribution will increase from 1.5% to 3%.
