As part of the economic reactivation measures proposed by the Government of Guatemala before COVID-19, on April 17th, Decree 18-2020 came into effect, through which the Congress approved the loan granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration – BCIE (for its acronym in Spanish)- for an amount of USD$ 193,200,000.00 for the execution of the “Investment Program in Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment”.
At the time, the agreement of said loan is in the process of been executed and it is expected that in the coming weeks, the Ministry of Public Finance will create an executing unit for the administration of the project and to carry out the contracts and acquisitions under the approved planning.
Regarding infrastructure, the loan will go towards the construction and equipment of three new hospital centers; the recovery of two hospital centers whose construction is stopped; and, finally, the renovation of six national hospitals and their respective equipment.
