BLP acted as local counsel to International Finance Corporation (IFC) in connection with a senior unsecured financing package of US$200 million granted to Banco de América Central, S.A.
The transaction forms part of IFC’s strategy to strengthen financial inclusion, support sustainable finance initiatives, and expand access to credit for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in Guatemala. The proceeds will support the growth of BAC Guatemala’s climate-smart asset portfolio, including green buildings, hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as its SME lending portfolio.
This financing will contribute to Guatemala’s economic development by facilitating access to sustainable, long-term financing for productive sectors of the economy, while also addressing the MSME financing gap and the country’s vulnerability to climate-related events.
BLP advised on the relevant legal and regulatory aspects of the transaction, including local due diligence, review of the financing documentation, and banking and financial regulatory matters.
The transaction was led by partner Jorge Arenales and senior associate Anneliss Wohlers.
