BLP advised IDB Invest as lead counsel in connection with a US$20 million senior secured, uncommitted revolving import finance facility granted to subsidiaries of the Kaufmann Group in Costa Rica and Peru to support the introduction and scaling of electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, charging infrastructure, and related equipment in both jurisdictions.
The facility, structured in two tranches of up to US$10 million each, features repayment terms of up to 390 days and availability for up to four years, extendable for additional periods. The financing forms part of IDB Invest’s broader strategy to promote sustainable, low-carbon mobility solutions across Latin America.
The project aims to strengthen the regional supply chain for electric mobility and accelerate the transition toward cleaner, more efficient transportation in Costa Rica and Peru, both of which operate predominantly renewable electricity grids. In addition to financing, IDB Invest will provide technical assistance to develop an in-depth market study on electromobility opportunities and implementation strategies in both countries.
BLP acted as lead counsel to IDB Invest, leading the structuring, preparation, negotiation, and closing of all financing documentation, and coordinating regulatory, corporate, and transactional matters across Costa Rica and Peru.
The BLP team included Partner Pablo Umaña, who led the transaction, with the support of Senior Associate Alejandro Fallas and Paralegal Paola Fernández.
