Project Description 

  • Objective: To select an international private concessionaire responsible for the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of Puerto Caldera’s infrastructure and equipment. 
  • Modality: Public works concession contract with public service, under the Public Works Concession Law with Public Service (LGOSP). 
  • Purpose: To meet the growing demand at Puerto Caldera and enhance service quality. 

About Puerto Caldera 

Puerto Caldera, located on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, is the country’s third largest port and handles a substantial portion of the commercial cargo entering and leaving the region. With the capacity to receive deep-draft vessels and manage significant volumes of containerized and bulk cargo, Puerto Caldera plays a critical role in the Costa Rican economy, facilitating trade and connecting the country to key international routes.

  • Submission of Bids: Physically at the offices of the Tourism Promotion Board, Plaza del Pacífico, INCOP, Puntarenas. 
  • Bid Submission Date: March 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. 

Approvals and Endorsements 

  • Entities Involved: Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), Ministry of Planning (MIDEPLAN), Environmental Technical Secretariat (SETENA), Ministry of Finance, and the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP). 
  • Feasibility Approval: INCOP’s Board of Directors, agreement No. 2 in session 4448, held on September 4, 2024.
